Instagram image sizes (2026) and a free resizer

Instagram shows posts at up to 1080 pixels wide. A portrait post (4:5) takes up the most room in the feed; Stories and Reels are full-screen 9:16. Pick a size below and Six-IR crops your photo to fit, keeping faces in frame.

How to resize a photo for Instagram

  1. Press Resize to this size next to the size you need. The resizer opens with it picked.
  2. Drop in your photo (iPhone HEIC works). Smart crop places the frame around faces; drag it if you'd rather choose.
  3. Press Make the file and download it. It's free, and the photo never leaves your device.

Need it for several platforms at once? Batch makes every size you tick for up to 10 photos in one zip, free.

Questions

What size should an Instagram post be?

For the biggest post in the feed, use portrait: 1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5). A square post is 1080 × 1080. Both are 1080 pixels wide, which is the width Instagram shows.

What size is an Instagram Story or Reel?

1080 × 1920 pixels, a 9:16 frame that fills a phone screen. Keep text and faces away from the very top and bottom, where Instagram puts its own buttons.

Will my photo get cropped?

Instagram crops anything outside its frame. Six-IR lets you choose first: Fill crops to the exact frame (smart crop keeps faces in), Fit keeps the whole photo and fills the edges with a blurred or plain background.
